Science Café: Weston-Farman Biplane
Learn more about the conceptualisation and construction of the Weston-Farman Biplane scale exhibit in Sci-Ed, a replica of the first aeroplane built in South Africa in 1906 in the then-called Brandfort, a rural town in the Free State. The presentation will include the background history, conceptualisation and plan, construction and mounting process.

Stargazing
Explore the Bloemfontein night sky from the Sci-Ed rooftop. Sci-Ed invites you to informal stargazing events, whether you are a seasoned astronomer or simply interested in the Bloemfontein night sky. Apart from naked eye observations, we will also look at celestial objects through a 10” Dobsonian telescope.

Come and enjoy exciting demonstrations of science concepts in action. The fun activities and experiments are aimed at edutainment that will encourage curiosity and inquiry among the young and old.
Make and launch your own parachute
In this make and take event, you will build your own replica parachute from household material and then launch it from the Sci-Ed rooftop to see who can hit the target!

Interactive Exhibits
Visit the Sci-Ed Science Education Centre to experience science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through hands-on, interactive and experiential activities. Engage with multiple interactive exhibits and educational displays at the outdoor Science Park and indoor Science Discovery Centre.

Shuttle Service Information:
A dedicated shuttle is available to all valid ticketholders, departing from the OFM-Odeion Parking Lot at 17:00 and arriving at Boyden Observatory by 17:30. Following the event, the shuttle will leave the observatory at 19:30, returning passengers back to campus by 20:00
