Chommie areyeng
The Pitori Thread Collective presents its debut group exhibition by its founding members titled Chommie areyeng, which in Sipitori means “friend, let’s go”, drawing from the colloquial term chommie, which refers to a friend, chosen family, or even just a familiar person; then, areyeng, “let’s go”, encourages companionship in a journey. The exhibition will display each member’s tapestries of identity that come together to form a family journeying into their cultural, spiritual and communal understandings of movement as bodies in the world. Founded by Tshwane University of Technology alums, the collective uses textile-based art to explore identity, culture, and spirituality, with members Andrea Moses, Aobakwe Matsepola, Koketso Thwala, Karabo Makapan, Khumo Rasebitse, and Clinton Mokale, managed by Cow Mash.
